About Cataract Surgery
Cataract Surgery Florida

Many people may suffer from cataracts for a long period of time without realizing they are experiencing symptoms of cataracts. Most cataract patients complain about a dullness of colors and night driving problems. Cataracts will gradually limit a person’s ability to do a simple task like reading a paper or seeing road signs. About 50% of people over the age of 60 suffer from cataracts.
Cataract surgery is one of the most common medical procedures performed in the United States today, with over 3 million performed each year according to the American Academy of Ophthalmology. The surgery is typically an outpatient procedure lasting about 10-15 minutes.
Choosing the right cataract lens for you!
When cataract surgery was first invented there was only monofocal lens implants for insertion after the surgery. The monofocal lens implants would only give patients vision at one distance. This meant that after cataract surgery patients would still require glasses after surgery. With the advent of PIOLs or Premium Lens Implants, our practice now has the ability to greatly reduce the need for glasses after cataract surgery. This is accomplished using premium lens implants such as multifocal or accommodating lens implants. Dr. Benaim or Dr. Shuster can help you select a lens that is appropriate for your visual situation. He will consider your current prescription and even whether or not you have astigmatism before he helps you select a premium lens implant. If you are seeking an expert premium lens doctor in Florida you have come to the right place. Your source for premium lens implants in Jupiter, Florida. The Procedure
Before the surgery, the eye must be properly cleaned and dilated so that topical anesthetic can be administered to the eye. A small incision will be made and a small ultrasonic device will be inserted. The front part of the lens envelop, known as the lens capsule, is carefully opened so that the lens material can be removed. A small ultrasonic device then pulverizes the hardened and yellowed proteins forming the cataract, and the pulverized material is simultaneously vacuumed from the eye. A folded intraocular lens, specifically chosen by you and your eye surgeon to suit your individual vision needs, is then inserted through the original incision and centered within the lens capsule. The lens will stay inside your eye without moving. Intraocular lenses cannot be felt or sensed in any way by the patient. Your surgeon will make sure the lens is positioned correctly, and the opening will self-seal without the need for stitches.
After Cataract Surgery
The recovery period after cataract surgery is generally pretty fast. Most patients achieve noticeable better vision within the first 24 hours of the procedure. Patients are given two different eye medications to be administered as drops several times daily for the first few weeks after surgery. It is important that during the first seven post-operative days patients refrain from strenuous activity such as exercise or lifting heavy objects. Patients should also refrain from rubbing their eyes during the first few weeks following surgery.
See Better After Cataract Surgery
Cataract patients now have an option to see at both near and far distances after cataract surgery! Individuals suffering from cataracts previously had only a mono-focal lens implant option after surgery. NEW premium lens implant technology can now decrease dependence on glasses after surgery. If you are seeking the ReSTOR® or ReZOOM® IOL lens options in Florida Dr. Benaim & Dr. Shuster can help you decide if this option is right for you! Dr. Benaim & Dr. Shuster also have an accommodating IOL option known as the Crystalens®.
